Invisible system tray with weird popover behaviour

Describe the Bug

Updated to the latest Sunshine version (pre-release, 2026.608.233907-1). After rebooting, the system icon for Sunshine is no longer visible. When right clicking the system tray icon, instead of a popover, a window in the middle of the screen appears. Here's a video reproducing the issue:

Expected Behavior

The tray icon should be visible, and when right-clicking, a popover should appear right next to the tray icon.

Interesting, I was just playing with this in a fresh CachyOS environment and the tray was working perfectly fine. So maybe a difference in packaging I guess.

Is this on X11 or Wayland session? Could be that it's using the wrong Qt native platform.

This might be a bug in Qt then. Sunshine's tray library uses Qt's implementation for handling the right-click here (there is no need to implement something like this explicitly as you'd have to handle all the edge cases manually).

Nope. For example, I use qBittorrent (latest version uses Qt 6.9.3), and tray icons work perfectly 🤔

I tired the latest pre-release (2026.06.08 and ..06) app-image in tumbleweed, sunshine is not launching - shows a qt based warning and exits.

Opensuse Tumbleweed (slowroll) with kde plasma 6.6.5 on wayland.

@ReenigneArcher there seems to be a problem with the appimage Qt-dependency packaging. If I'm trying the latest AppImage I'm getting the following on CachyOS as well:

As for the original issue: It's weird that the menu is encapsulated in separate wayland windows but I'm still clueless as to where this issue might stem from.

I also noticed the tray doesn't seem to work with Flatpak using KDE in CachyOS. Not sure if Sunshine crashed completely or just wasn't showing the tray.

For Flatpak it's just the tray not being created:

I added some logs/info for this unrelated issue few weeks ago here as well for the homebrew package: #5170 (comment)
Did not have the time for a proper issue report though.. nevertheless you might want to check brew too then.
