Tagging and querying artists (and other fields)

Lately I thought it would be useful to add a tag to artists I have seen or will see live (along with maybe the date), so that I could for example easily play their music when a show is coming up. There's an interesting discussion here on why this is not currently possible in Beets. Right now I'm thinking of just keeping a text file of artist IDs and dates that I can use to filter Beets, but it would be a lot more useful if you could do things like this within Beets. Does anyone have any other idea of how this could be implemented?

Bonus question:
Reading the linked discussion, I think it sounds kind of awesome to have a local subset of MusicBrainz, where you query only your own library. I know this is way out of scope for Beets, but does anyone have any idea if there are any tools to do something like this?

Another field that would be useful to query is artist country. There's a workaround plugin to use this in paths only, but it would be useful in queries.

Consider using a flexible field like upcoming_show: beet modify artist:xyz upcoming_show=1. Then you can see the artists that you have upcoming shows for with beet list upcoming_show:1 -f '$artist', for example.

You can then automate this using Ticketmaster API (https://developer.ticketmaster.com/products-and-docs/apis/discovery-api/v2/) or anything else to have it always updated.

The problem with this is that it's still stored per song, so if I add a new album I would have to manually add the tag to the new songs.
