ctrl+alt+arrow key shortcuts cannot be disabled

 * Mint 20.2
 * Graphics card (from System Settings): Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590]. Not sure about the driver, how can I found out what driver I'm using?
 * 64 bit

Issue

I'm unable to disable workspace switching using the ctrl+alt+arrow keys keyboard shortcuts.

Steps to reproduce

1. Ensure you have workspaces configured with at least two workspaces.
2. Remap alt to ctrl using keyboard layout options. Keyboard -> Layouts -> Options... -> Ctrl position -> "Left Alt as Ctrl, Left Ctrl as Win, Left Win as Left Alt"
3. Change the keyboard shortcut for "Cycle through open windows" to "Ctrl+Tab". Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> General.
4. Disable the keyboard shortcuts for "Switch to (left|right) workspace". Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Workspaces.
5. Be sure to have at least one open window so the alt-tab switcher will show.
6. Invoke the Alt-Tab switcher using the new keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Tab" (by pressing the physical alt key + tab).
7. Continue to hold the ctrl key (physical alt key).
8. Press the right arrow key.

Expected behaviour

Pressing left or right while the Alt-Tab switcher is open should cycle between applications, not switch workspaces.

Other information

I've installed dconf-editor and disabled the gnome shortcuts within org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings as well but the issue persists.

5 years later...

I have a similar problem; I guess due to the same underlying issue (?)

I can actually recreate this fairly simply:

• hold down left alt
• tap the tab key (brings up the window-switcher menu)
• (while keeping left alt pressed) hold down left ctrl
• tap arrows right/left

It moves to the next/previous workspace, despite all workspace-related custom shortcuts being disabled.

This is especially annoying since I have a custom, layered keyboard layout (Plank keyboard configured with Oryx) that was using this combination to simply move left/right on the window-switcher menu. Instead now I am blasted onto a different workspace when I attempt this deeply ingrained muscle-memory combination...)
