[BUG] Linux Mint Cinnamon does not remember sound sources

Issue

Cinnamon does not remember the selected microphone on reboot.
With the speakers, the output source also changes according to the UI, but the system is playing to the correct speakers - so you cannot control them via mouse wheel and have to go into the settings to change the speaker.

Steps to reproduce

Connect Microphone and Speakers over USB Hub on a System with built-in input and output.
Select them as active input/output.
Reboot.

Expected behaviour

System remembers last selected microphone and speakers.
Sound is controllable via sound icon in bottom right corner, and in the sound settings the used speaker that is shown matches the speaker actually used by the system.

Other information

Microphone is Yeti X.
USB Hub is from i-tec, the i-tec Nano (e.g. this one https://www.galaxus.de/de/s1/product/i-tec-nano-usb-c-dockingstation-usb-hub-13019484?supplier=2705624).
Hub is connected with an USB Adapter (USB C -> USB A) + USB 3.0 extension cord.

A couple of cents from me. My USB dock station has audio output. Whenever I plug my laptop to the dock, Cinnamon selects it as the default sound device which I don't use, however. The bug is even more annoying because reboot or replugging the dock is not necessary, after long sleep USB automatically suspends and the bug is reproduced even without my participation.

I also have this issue with the audio device selected after reboot. The audio output is correct after reboot, but the UI indicates a different audio device is selected. Additionally, the volume control will from the wheel on my keyboard will only change the volume on the device selected in the UI which will have no effect on the active device until you go into the UI and select the actual active device.

I have found a workaround. In pavucontrol tool (install if necessary) on Configuration tab you can select Off profile for all the devices apart from the one you would like to use. In this case, if there is only one active device in the system, it will not be changed after reboot. Obviously, this is not a fix, only a workaround which is not be suitable for everyone.

Still a problem, at least with an HDMI connection. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it reliably. I set the volume to 100%, after a reboot it's still 100%, but after a few more reboots it will come up with volume less than 50% (after a session where I didn't touch the volume adjuster). It's unpredictable.

I'm going to try adding
wpctl set-volume @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SINK@ 100%
to a script I run at login.

I just had this issue happen yesterday, I have several output sources because of a usb-c external screen with speaker. I never use it but the output source regularly is changed to this at boot. I cannot lock to the output source I actually use, tried all the workarounds.
