Both licenses have their advantages and disadvantages. We use the MIT license because the people, who started the project a decade ago, used it. And we respect this decision. In addition, changing the license would cause "badwill" towards our project: people integrating our tools into their projects would either have to stop using our tools or have to change the licenses of their own projects. |

Microsoft has since taken coreutils to Windows: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsofts-coreutils-project-brings-linux-commands-to-windows/ . GNU protected against this. All the warnings from the issues created should have been listened to, instead of being rejected and disallowing discussion. |

Why don't you use the GPL instead of MIT license?
A significant part of the coreutils is its GPL scheme.
